Vegetable starts

• Tomato, four inch pot

  Eleven varieties. Two are cherry, three are paste, and one is the ugly heirloom that tastes better than the rest of them together.

  Four varieties only, and it is the sensible way to buy them if you are planting more than three.

  Sweet, jalapeño, poblano, habanero. The habaneros always outlive everything else on the bench.

  Basil, parsley, thyme, oregano, rosemary, mint. The mint is in a pot and should stay in a pot forever.

  March only, and most apples need a second tree nearby to set fruit. Ask before you buy one, because half the disappointed people we hear from bought one apple tree.
